Exploring the Monteverde Cloud Forest of Costa Rica

costa rica

Exploring the Monteverde Cloud Forest is one of the best things to do when going to Costa Rica. Motenverde Cloud is located near the peak of Costa Rica’s mountain ranges.  In fact, it is where the original canopy tour was created.

While it looks abandoned, this tropical forest is actually a gem to discover. Wait until you get through the terrains and courses inside the forest and you’ll know it’s not like any forest out there. Here are a couple of things you can expect when touring the forest.

A travel back in time

Walking through Moteverde is like travelling back in time. The towering trees and acres of greeneries is unbelievably awe-inspiring. There are swamps and different species of flowers and trees. How do you think the locals were able to preserve such a gem?   The tropical forest is further divided into six different biological zones making it one of the largest nature reserves in Costa Rica.

There are trails for experts and beginners. One thing unique about this forest is that it is very unique.  You can see how it was able to preserve nature as if it has never been touched. As a tourist, you also need to help preserve the forest by not littering around. You need to bring your own water and wear proper gears. Also avoid picking flowers or touching anything unless it is safe.

 Lifetime memories

Monteverde is a land of adventure and your trip here will truly be one-of-a-kind.  It doesn’t only offer dozens of adventurous trails for serious hikers but also various obstacles that make the entire trip unforgettable.

The wooden trails and the hanging bridge at Selvatura  are definitely a must-try. Just be warned –  the rugged terrains are quite high-altitude and challenging. Clearly, this type of activity is not for the faint-hearted. If you are coming with your family, you need to make sure you have trained first before coming here.

On the bright side, Monteverde is not only about towering trees and challenging trails. This forest is also home to more than 400 species of birds, 420 different types of orchids, and 2, 500 plant species. It pays to have a little research about the plants that you may see in this forest in order to become familiar with them and to easily spot them in the forest.
